Why do districts join The District Management Council?
School districts join the Council to receive strategic management advice, including best practices, and actionable guidance on how to focus district objectives toward improving student achievement, enhancing educational practices, and reducing cost throughout the district.

What types of topics do you cover?
The District Management Council covers topics related to strategic management issues directly relevant to public school districts. These topics may include but are not limited to strategy formulation, planning, budgeting and resource allocation, organizational structure, design of core processes, human resources (recruiting, retention, incentive pay, etc.), communications and family engagement, quality and performance management, purchasing and outsourcing, and organizational learning.

How do you decide which topics to cover?
Topics are chosen after extensive research and discussions with client members. We work to identify the most important management issues and challenges relevant to all of our member school districts.

Does membership require a substantial amount of time?
We recognize the extensive demands placed upon today’s superintendents and cabinet-level staff, and thus we work to minimize the time commitment required for complete participation in the Council. Our events are designed to impart knowledge in a clear and concise manner without wasting valuable time. Members are encouraged to provide the Council feedback if they are not satisfied with the value they get from their time commitment.

With whom will I interact at The District Management Council?
All personnel are available to support your efforts. In addition, the reach of The District Management Council’s support extends to our member districts.

What happens if there is a change in leadership in my district?
The unit of membership is the district. Should there be a change in the leadership of the district, the new superintendent will have full access to participation in the Council. We also encourage the former superintendent to get his or her new district to become a member so that the long-term relationship is kept intact.

With whom do you work with at member districts?
Our primary interface is with the superintendent. We also work commonly with senior staff to help disseminate management best practices throughout the organization. District staff can take full advantage of call-in consultation.

Are members required to share information with you?
Members are encouraged to participate in research projects and case studies but are not required to do so.

Are members required to share information with each other?
While members are not required to share information with each other, they are encouraged to support an environment of mutual learning where successes and failures are considered growth opportunities.

How does unlimited call-in service work?
We design our materials to be clear, concise, and focused on essential points. Our meetings and interactions with staff are structured in a way that gets to our members’ underlying issues and questions. Along with these carefully planned interactions, we provide telephone support to minimize logistical costs.

Has a member ever invoked your service guarantee?
No member has ever invoked our service guarantee.
